Gongura Pappu | Sorrel Leaves Dal


Sorrel Leaves Dal - Sorrel leaves dal (gongura pappu) is the south indian recipe which is made with sorrel leaves and toor dal. Dal is most common recipe in most south Indian homes. They goes well with rice and roti/chapathi/parota.

Adding crushed garlic to dal recipes adds extra taste to curry. And tampering with cumin seeds is also needed to get perfect taste to sorrel leaves dal(gongura pappu).

Ingredients Required

  • Sorrel leaves ( gongura) - 1 bunch
  • Toor dal - 1/2cup
  • Onion - 1
  • Green chillies - 2
  • Oil - 2tbsp
  • Red chillies - 2
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2tsp
  • Curry leaves
  • Salt - 1tsp
  • Red chilli powder - 1 1/2tsp
Preparation

1. Add toordal into a cooker with double quantity water and let soak for 30mins.


2. 30mins later add chopped sorrel leaves, onion, green chillies into it and add water id required based on the quantity you are cooking.


3. Close lid and cook for 5 to 6 whistles.


4. Now add salt and turmeric and mix all together.


5. Then add red chilli powder and mix all together and cook for 4 to 5mins.


6. For tampering add oil, red chillies, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves and fry.




7. Add it into curry and mix all together. Sorrel leaves dal is ready to serve.


8. Now Sorrel leaves dal is ready to serve. It can be served with rice, roti/chapathi/parota.
