Homemade Masala Powders


In this article, I’ll share how to prepare masala powders daily we use at home. 

Now, you don’t need to buy your masalas from outside anymore! These easy recipes are both healthy and delicious, made fresh at home with ingredients that you already have in your kitchen.  

I have compiled recipes of homemade masala powders or spice mix which you can make and store in air-tight containers. This is very beneficial  when you do not want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen.

Homemade Spice Mix Masala Powders Saves time, Easy to make, Free of preservative and additives, Are tastier than store-bought ones. 

Generally, these powders are used in exotic indian curries or different flavours of rice like pulao and biriyani. So now lets start the making process. I am sharing my Youtube video here so it would be easy for you to follow.

Coriander Powder
  1. Add coriander seeds into a heated pan and saute for 4 to 5 mins in low heat
  2. Let it cool completely
  3. Now transfer into mixi jar and grind to fine powder
  4. Coriander powder is ready and can be stored for 6 months
Jeera Powder
  1. Add cumin seeds into a heated pan and saute for 4 to 5 mins in low heat
  2. Let it cool completely
  3. Now transfer into mixi jar and grind to fine powder
  4. Jeera powder is ready and can be stored for 6 months
Garam Masala
  1. Add all masala spices available cinnamon and cloves equal quantity and remaining all spices half the quantity of cinnamon and cloves and fry for 4 to 5mins
  2. Add them to mixi jar and grind to fine powder
  3. Garam masala is ready and can be stored for 6 months
Rasam Powder
Ingredients Required
  • Red toor dal – 1cup
  • Coriander seeds – 1cup
  • Red chillies – 5
  • Salt – 1tsp
  • Pepper – 1tbsp
  • Turmeric – 1/2tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds – 1/2tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2tsp
  • Curry leaves
Preparation
  1. Add red toor dal into a heated pan and fry for 1min
  2. Add coriander seeds and fry for 1min
  3. Now add red chillies, salt, pepper, fenugreek seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves and fry all together in low heat for 3 to 4mins
  4. Turn off the stove and let it cool for sometime
  5. Transfer to mixi jar,add turmeric and grind to fine powder
  6. Rasam powder is ready and can be stored for 6 months
Chat Masala
Ingredients Required
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2cup
  • Black pepper – 2tbsp
  • Rock Salt – 2tbsp
  • Hing powder – 1/4th tsp
  • Ginger powder – 1/2tsp
  • Amchur powder – 1/2tsp
  • Raw red chilli powder – 1/2tsp
  • Black salt – 4tbsp
Preparation
  1. Fry cumin seeds for 3 to 4mins till it turns auromatic and keep it aside
  2. Now fry 2tbsp pepper, turns auromatic, then keep aside
  3. Add rock salt, hing powder, ginger powder, amchur powder and fry for 3 to 4mins
  4. Now transfer it into a bowl
  5. Now add raw red chilli powder into bowl and mix all together
  6. Now add 4tbsp black salt and mix
  7. Add this mixture to mixi jar and grind to fine powder
  8. Store it in air tight container
