Prawns Curry | Royyala Kura

Prawns Curry - This prawns can be prepared in many ways. This is the way I prepare mostly, as it is with more gravy. This is one of my favourite non veg dishes.

Adding onions and tomatoes gives gravy to curry. But added grated and fried coconut powder into it and it adds more taste to the curry.
Adding coconut powder gives more taste as well as curry looks gravy and can be served with any biryani too. For this prawns curry I'm using fresh water prawns. I'm preparing this curry with 1/2kg prawns.

So now lets quickly check out the ingredients and complete process of preparing this curry along with step by step pics.

  • Garam masala - 1tsp
  • Ginger garlic paste - 3tsp

Preparation

Cleaning Prawns

1. Firstly for cleaning prawns add turmeric and half lemon juice and mix together.

2. Then add water and clean twice with normal water too.

3. Remove water and keep aside.

Marination Process

1. Add salt, red chilli powder, turmeric, ginger garlic paste and mix all together.

2. Marinate for about 20mins to half an hour minimum. If you have time then marinate for upto 4hrs.

Meanwhile lets checkout the coconut powder. This coconut powder can be added in any gravy curries or fries. Generally I make this coconut powder and store it for 6 months. This is made with fresh coconut, not dried coconut.

Making Coconut Powder

1. Chop coconut into small pieces or you can grate them with grater.

2. Now add them into mixi jar and grind into powder. Grind them by stopping otherwise it becomes wet, powder should be dry.

3. Now dry roast this powder for about 5 to 6 mins in low heat.

4. 5mins later it slightly changes colour with nice aromatic smell, then turn off the stove and let it cool.

5. This can be stored in a air tight container in refrigerator for about 6 months.

So using this coconut we are going to prepare this curry. We add only 2 spoons but it tastes great. Once you all need to try it.

Curry Preparation

1. Add oil into heated pan.

2. Add cloves and cinnamon and let them fry for a minute.

3. Add chopped onion, green chillies, curry leaves and saute till onion is translucent.

4. Then add ginger garlic paste and saute for 2mins.

5. Now add chopped tomato and mix all together.

6. Let tomato cook properly. Add salt and turmeric required for this onion and tomato, as we already added in prawns while marinating.

7. Close lid and cook till tomato is soft. Mix frequently

8. Then add marinated prawns and mix all together.

9. Add red chilli powder as we added only for prawns in the marination process. We need to add for onion and tomato also. And add coriander powder, jeera powder and mix all together.

10. Add 1/4th cup water and mix all together.

11. Close lid and cook till prawns are cooked perfectly in low heat.

12. Prawns also releases some water and they cook perfectly.

13. When left with some water in the curry add garam masala and mix.

14. Close lid and cook for 4 to 5mins so that masala flavour is absorbed by prawns too.

15. Finally garnish with coriander leaves.

Finally curry is ready to serve.
