Aloo Bonda | Aloo Snacks | Instant Tea Time Snacks


Aloo Bonda- A popular snack which is a deep fried spicy potato dumpling. It is prepared with spiced mashed potato baji which is then coated with besan batter and then deep fried till golden crisp. It is a famous vegetarian fast food snack in maharashtra cuisine or street food.

Usually it is prepared in round ball like shaped snack, but can also be prepared in patties or tikki shape. I got this recipe from one of friend, I liked it very much. It can be served with tomato sauce.


Generally when I prepare new snack item or any other, I prefer giving it to my neighbours. This item, they are very much excited and keep on asking me the process of making the snack, so I made a video on that and sharing with you all now.  

So now lets get started the recipe. I am sharing my Youtube Video Recipe here so it would be easy for you to follow.

For stuffing 

Ingredients Required

For stuffing 
  • Potatoes - 5
  • Oil - 3tbsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1tsp
  • Green chillies - 3 finely chopped
  • Curry leaves
  • Onion - 1 chopped
  • Salt - 2tsp
  • Turmeric - 1/2tsp
  • Red chilli powder - 1/2tsp
  • Garam masala - 1/2tsp
  • Coriander Leaves
For Besan batter
  • Besan - 1 cup
  • Rice Flour - 1/4th cup
  • Salt - 1/2tsp
  • Cooking soda - A pinch
  • Red chilli powder - 1/4th tsp
Preparation

For Stuffing
  1. Boil potatoes, peel off the layer, mash them and keep aside.
  2. Add oil into heated pan
  3. Add cumin seeds,green chillies, onion, salt and fry till onions are translucent
  4. Then add mashed potato and mix
  5. Add red chilli powder, garam masala and mix.
  6. Let fry for 3 to 4mins in low heat
  7. Turn off the stove and let it cool for sometime, meanwhile we can prepare besan batter.
Besan Batter Preparation
  1. Add besan,rice flour,salt,baking soda in above mentioned measurements and mix all together by adding water.
  2. Consistency should be thick.
Bonda preparation
  1. Now make small balls with potato stuffing and let them cool for sometime, so that ball becomes hard and bonda will be in perfect shape.
  2. Now add oil for deep fry.
  3. Dip each ball into besan batter and drop into hot oil for deep fry.
  4. Aloo bonda is ready to serve.
  5. It can be served with tomato sauce.
