Prawns Gongura Curry | Andhra Special Royyala Gongura

 


In this post, let us checkout the preparation of prawns curry with sorrel leaves. This is one of my favourite recipes using prawns. By adding sorrel leaves, it adds extra taste with gravy too.. 

This is famous andhra style prawns sorrel leaves curry, in telugu(pachi royyalu gongura). This is the easiest way to prepare the curry. 

For this prawns curry I'm using fresh water prawns which I ordered in Licious. I'm preparing this curry with 1/2kg prawns and half bunch of sorrel leaves. We cook both separately and mix them. Process will be very easy, beginners can also easily prepare this curry.

Marinating prawns increases taste to the curry. Sorrel leaves adds super taste to the curry. Now let's checkout ingredients required for the curry.


Ingredients Required
  • Prawns - 1/2kg
  • Sorrel Leaves - 1/2 Bunch
  • Salt - 3 1/2tsp
  • Red chilli powder - 2tsp
  • Turmeric - 1/2tsp
  • Lemon - 1/2
  • Ginger garlic paste - 2tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1tsp
  • Jeera Powder - 1/2tsp
  • Garam masala - 1tsp
  • Green chillies - 7 to 8
  • Onion - 2 finely chopped
  • Tomatoes - 2
  • Coriander leaves
  • Cloves - 2
  • Cinnamon - 2

Preparation

  • Cleaning Prawns
1. Add prawns into a bowl and clean with normal water. 



2. Then add lemon, turmeric  mix together and clean. This helps to relieve foul smell from prawns.



3. Finally clean with normal water 



  • Marinating Prawns
1. Add 1 1/2 tsp salt, 2tsp red chilli powder, 1tsp ginger garlic paste and mix all together.





2. Marinate for about 20mins to half an hour



  • Preparing Sorrel Leaves Paste
1. Add sorrel leaves, green chillies into a pan, close lid and let cook till leaves change colour.






2. Then turn off the stove and let it cool for sometime.
3. Then add 2tsp salt, cooked sorrel leaves, green chillies, little water into a mixi jar and grind into fine paste and keep aside.





  • Cooking Prawns
1. Add marinated prawns into a pan.



2. Close lid and cook in low heat till water releases from prawns.




3. Then open lid and cook till water is completely evaporated.





  • Curry Process
1. Add oil into heated pan.



2. Add cloves and cinnamon and let fry for 2mins.




3. Add chopped onions and let onions turn transparent.




4. Then add ginger garlic paste and saute for 2mins.



5. Add chopped tomato and mix.



6. Now add salt required for onion and tomato as we already added in sorrel paste and prawns, turmeric and mix all together.




7. Close lid and cook till tomato is soft.



8. Then add marinated prawns and mix.

9. Add coriander powder, jeera powder, garam masala and mix all together.





10. Add sorrel paste and mix, add 1/2 cup water.





11. Now sorrel paste should be cooked completely. 



12. They mix with prawns and prawns absorb sorrel leaves flavour completely.
13. Cook for 4 to 5mins.
14. Finally garnish with coriander leaves.



15. Prawns sorrel leaves curry is ready to serve.



16. This curry tastes great with rice and roti's/chapathi's too..
